Gay & Lesbian Commitment Ceremonies

Ishara and Miriam look forward to the day when same-sex marriage will finally be recognised under Australian law.

In the meantime, we chose to make a public commitment to one another in the presence of our friends and family at a handfasting ceremony of our own design in September 2007. We personally found the experience very meaningful and moving, and feel that it has taken our relationship to a deeper level of intimacy.

We would be pleased to offer a similar ceremony to other gay, lesbian and transgendered couples desiring to deepen their relationship in this way.

We recognise that not all gay and lesbian couples are alike, so the ceremony we co-create with you will not necessarily look like this:

But then again, it could if you wanted it to!
